Full Job Description

Manages the daily operation of the SHEP Responder Team. Establishes work schedules to cover twelve (12) hours/seven (7) days a week. Develops training plan and schedules responders for necessary training. Travels assigned routes assisting emergency response agencies during incidents, clearing travel lanes, and aiding stranded motorists. Records SHEP Responder activities at incident scenes and prepares written reports of activities at major incident scenes. Assists in preparing Monthly reports. Coordinates maintenance and inspections of vehicles, equipment, message boards, and highway advisory radios with other agencies to ensure serviceability. Coordinates deployment of personnel and equipment to support emergency situations and natural disasters. Provides job performance feedback to employees and performs written evaluations. Evaluates and interviews applicants for SHEP Responder positions. Manages safety program, provides safety equipment for personnel, and ensures compliance with OSHA requirements. Coordinates requirements with the District Safety Representative. Completes investigation and documentation involving vehicle accidents and personal injury. Supervises and assists with inclement weather operations when required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma and two and one-half (2.5) years of related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: Employee must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. This position requires corrected 20/20 vision. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise on a daily basis. Work environment is generally in a truck and in close proximity to heavy and fast-moving traffic. Position requires attention to detail in the daily operation of the SHEP Responder team. Candidate must complete training in Traffic Control, First Aid, Hazardous Material Identification, Defensive Driving, and Vehicle Handling course. Evaluate traffic situations using sound judgment to activate all warning devices. Other duties involve lifting up to 60 pounds. Location and severity of incidents will require working in close proximity to heavy, fast-moving traffic. Mobility, manual dexterity, and excellent vision required. Additional work hours may be required.
