Full Job Description

Works as the assistant to the Assistant District Traffic Engineer in charge of incident management. Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the District Four Traffic Management Center, York and Cherokee county camera and RVD operations and Incident Response units on I-77 and I-85 in District Four. Supervisor of a specialized technical work force of traffic incident responders, responding to traffic incidents and assisting emergency responders by implementing required traffic control and other associated tasks. Works within the Traffic Management Center directing Communications Specialists in monitoring CCTV cameras for the purpose of detecting incidents and stranded motorists. Assists in routing correct SCDOT personnel to incident scene.

Displays messages for the motoring public via variable message signs, and dynamic message boards. Understands and can train others in the use of various TMC equipment. Directs and prepares various logs and reports pertaining to traffic conditions, incident mgt., equipment deployment, etc...Assists in collecting and maintaining MSCS for products on site and in vehicle. Maintains and secures necessary supplies and equipment necessary for the operation of the Traffic Management Center.

Under the direction of the District Traffic Operations Engineer (Transportation Engineer Associate III) leads with the implementation of traffic control measures necessary for traffic diversion routes during major traffic incidents. Leads in the training of new TMC operators and Incident responders that are hired. Assists in responding as needed to on call after hours emergencies and responding to calls from the statewide TMC when the District 4 TMC is closed. Leads/assigns monthly safety meetings and topics for all shifts (maintains meeting and attendance records). Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma and three (3) years of related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: Employee must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. This position requires corrected 20/20 vision. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise on a daily basis. Work environment is generally in a truck and in close proximity to heavy and fast-moving traffic.
