This job is for a Transportation Sergeant at a South Carolina prison, where you'll drive inmates to off-site locations while keeping them secure and under control using restraints or firearms as needed.
You'll also handle vehicle maintenance, inspections, and paperwork, plus step in for regular sergeant duties when not transporting.

This Sergeant position is for the Transportation Sergeant.
As the Transportation Sergeant you are responsible for the following.
Operates motor vehicles and transports inmates outside of the institution.
Maintains security, custody and control of inmate's behavior during transport using mechanical restraints/firearm device based on inmates’ custody, purpose and destination of inmate.
Performs daily vehicle maintenance and vehicle inspections and submits written reports immediately to supervisor indicating needed corrective maintenance to ensure safety and operation of vehicle.
Operates state vehicles in accordance with all state laws and SCDC policy and procedures.
Performs functions as a Sergeant as needed while in the institution between transportation runs.
Maintains required agency training for certification.
Reports vehicle accidents and emergencies.
Maintain required records and paperwork on vehicles and vehicle logs.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
