Full Job Description

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Protective Service (FPS), Springfield, Virginia.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.

Specialized Experience: GS-13: Applicant must demonstrate one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Evaluating background investigation or personnel security information to assess suitability, fitness, or security clearance eligibility in cases involving conflicting, disqualifying, or mitigating factors; Interpreting personnel security policies, regulations, and adjudicative standards to make or recommend eligibility determinations; and Providing guidance or recommendations to advise management, stakeholders, or staff on personnel security policies, procedures, programs, or case-related issues.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Senior Personnel Security Specialist responsible for administering, evaluating, and advising on personnel security programs.

This work is in support of the agency's mission to prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from terrorism, criminal acts, and other hazards threatening the U.S.

Government's critical infrastructure, services, and the people who provide or receive them.

Duties performed: Serving as a Subject Matter Expert member for the agency security compliance review auditing team and accomplishing daily tasks and issues related to personnel security.

Overseeing and facilitating personnel security functions performed by specialists, assistants, and contractor staff.

Evaluating personnel security programs, identifying vulnerabilities or compliance issues, and recommending improvements to enhance program effectiveness.

Interpreting personnel security policies and applying regulatory guidance to resolve complex or conflicting security issues.

Providing training and technical assistance to personnel security staff on processes, systems, and requirements.
