Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a security assistant who verifies identities, issues access cards and badges, and manages electronic databases to control entry to a military installation.

You'll help military personnel, civilians, contractors, and others get the right identification while ensuring security protocols are followed.

It's a good fit for someone detail-oriented with experience in data entry, customer service, or security who wants a stable government role.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 level, such as issuing badges, entering personal data into systems, or verifying identification documents
  • Ability to operate DEERS/RAPIDS workstations and electronic security systems

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.

To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Creditable specialized experience includes: Issuing badges, passes, or other forms to authorize access Enter personal identifiable data into electronic systems Verify the legitimacy of identification documents B.

Education Substitution: Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, you must possess: Graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • Serves as a Verifying Official (VO) operating DEERS/RAPIDS workstations. Operates the installation’s electronic security system (ESS).
  • Adds, updates, retrieves, displays, transmits, and stores personally identifiable information on individuals in the DEERS database.
  • Generates the Common Access Card (CAC) for eligible military, civilian, contractor, Guard/Reserve, and foreign military personnel.
  • Generates the Uniform Services Identification (USID) Card for eligible individuals including retired military, military dependents, foreign nationals, volunteers, and others.
  • Greets customers and determines their eligibility to enter the installation.
  • Supports installation physical security and law enforcement programs by producing analytical reports pertaining to ID card issuance and lost or stolen identification credentials.
