Full Job Description

The Public Works Transportation Operations Sign Shop division is seeking multiple candidates to work as Seasonal Workers for the 2026 season.

Find us here at upcoming career fairs!Location and hours:These positions are located at the Public Works Facility, 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340. The typical work schedule will be 6 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with occasional evening and weekend hours. There is no public transportation to this facility.

About these position types:
These are temporary, seasonal positions (non-benefit earning) that may last for up to six months during the 2026 season (April - October). These positions are also available to accommodate a student's schedule and work from (June - August).

These positions are internally classified as Casual Laborer.

In these positions, you will:
  • Installing and maintaining pavement markings.
  • Driving a follow truck/coning truck during long line striping.
  • Operate and program electronic message boards; deliver and set up message boards around the county.
  • Install and maintain traffic control signs and devices during Traffic Operations Inspections and Maintenance work.
  • Flag traffic.
  • Trim trees, chip bushes, and remove debris.
  • Install signs and traffic control devices.
  • Perform other traffic maintenance related tasks.

Need to have:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
  • Availability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, and work on uneven terrain.

Nice to have:
  • Knowledge of road and grounds maintenance practices and equipment.
  • Experience:
    • Working with traffic control and/or traffic control devices.
    • Flagging on a road construction project.
    • Working with concrete.
  • Ability to:
    • Follow verbal and written directions, including the department's cellphone policy.
    • Hook, pull, and back up a trailer efficiently.
    • Operate a 1-ton dump box truck and be able to set up a lane closer in accordance with the MUTCD.
