Job Description

Summary

NOTE: OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039-hour season.

This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season(s) reflected in this announcement. See the Additional Information section for details.

The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement 02/24/2026 unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required.

Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

Areas considered "near" the Denali National Park and Preserve duty station include only: Anderson, Cantwell, Chulitna, Clear, Curry, Denali Park, Ferry, Healy, Kantishna, Lake Minchumina, McKinley Village, Nenana, Nikolai, Petersville, Talkeetna, Tanana, Telida, and Trapper Creek.

-ALSO- The following are the competencies identified for this position.

Applicants are not required to address these competencies in a separate document but are encouraged to include in their resumes experience related to these competencies: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05 and/or 07, without more than normal supervision in the trades of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. Knowledge of technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Ability to use measuring instruments.

Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (including blueprint reading). Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Knowledge of materials. Major Duties:

If selected, you will work as a WG-05 or WG-07 Maintenance Worker at Denali National Park and Preserve.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: At the WG-4749-05 grade level: Assist higher graded maintenance workers in the performance of work.

Perform carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables, broken windows using precut stock; make minor adjustments, or replace hinges, latches, and catches.

Perform minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects.

Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures; replace faucet washers; unplug drains using a plunger; replace liquid petroleum gas bottles.

Receive, upload, and process incoming shipments according to established procedures; report discrepancies and damage.

Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collect trash.

Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.

Make minor repairs as needed. Operate a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging.

In addition to the duties above, at the WG-4749-07 grade level duties will include the following: Maintenance and repair of building and utility systems including carpentry, plumbing, painting, roofing, electrical, utility system operation and repair, and trash and recycling pick-up and disposal or staging.

Provides technical advice to co-workers.

Perform plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines.

Check, troubleshoot and analyze electrical circuitry using proper equipment to measure current, voltage and resistance. Install, repair and replace electrical systems components.
