Full Job Description

Steamtown National Historic Site encompasses 62 acres in downtown Scranton, PA, and includes active locomotive and restoration shops, a museum complex, a fully operational roundhouse and turntable, and a large assembleage of rolling stock used for both static display and interpretive ride experiences.

Scranton is the largest city in northeastern Pennsylvania, with over 76,000 residents.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

(includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.

Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments SCREEN OUT: Specialized experience performing simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

Experience using simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches, and catches.

Experience using a brush and roller on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels.

Experience tightening or replacing plumbing fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaced faucet washers; unplugged drains using a plunger; replaced liquid petroleum gas bottles.

Experience performing routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to regrade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances.

Experience operating a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites.

Experience cleaning and servicing chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.

Experience operating a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging.

Major Duties of the position: Performs ground maintenance activities, mowing lawns, picking up debris, landscaping, snow and ice removal, from walkways, entry ways, driveways.

Performs safe and acceptable work with common hand tools, axes, hatchets, saws, etc. Performs painting work on modern and historic buildings, interpretive devices and exhibits.

Performs work on such items as broken pipes, plugged drains faulty valves faucets.

Assists journeyman level on HVAC systems, assists with installs, repairs, and maintains electrical equipment such as light fixtures, switches, receptacles, conduit, controllers, and electrical appliances Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present.

Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
