Full Job Description

This position is located at Dry Tortugas National Park in the Facilities Maintenance Division.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May - January, but the season may be extended or reduced due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 1, 2026.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

As a Seasonal Maintenance Mechanic at Dry Tortugas National Park you will: Perform general carpentry work, such as repairing, constructing, installing, and replacing doors, shelves, windows, trim, cabinets, shelves, shutters to buildings and inside of residences.

Perform general plumbing maintenance, such as maintaining plumbing to kitchen and bathroom fixtures and sprinkler systems and fuel supply pipe systems to buildings and residences.

Perform general HVAC work including repairing, replacing, and cleaning of HVAC systems in housing and buildings. Perform general painting, masonry work, roofing etc.

Utilizes a variety of materials, tools and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds.

Area Information: This position is duty stationed within Dry Tortugas National Park (DRTO) on Garden Key, located 68 miles west of Key West, Florida in the southeastern Gulf of America.

Garden Key is a remote 16-acre island with few services. The island does have employee housing, a small recreation room, and limited internet.

There are no groceries stores, banks, parts and supply outlets, etc. available on island. Employees must travel to Key West via park supply ship, commercial ferry, or seaplane to access most services.
