Requirements

This position provides an opportunity for hands-on training to learn the skills required to inspect health care facilities for compliance with the Life Safety Code within the Commonwealth.

As Safety Inspector in the Department of Health, you are responsible for ensuring a safe environment for both the residents, patients, and staff within each facility.

You will conduct complete and extensive fire safety surveys of hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory surgical centers, birthing centers and all other health care occupancies.

This role may have incumbents lift objects and climb ladders to conduct surveys.

All findings are documented in appropriate federal and state forms and submitted to the Safety Inspection Supervisor for review.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Primary coverage area will be Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Lawrence, Warren, Venango, Butler, Forest, Clarion, Armstrong, McKean, Elk, Jefferson, Indiana, Cameron, Clearfield Counties.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Safety Inspector Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, healthcare or other buildings or structures, machines, apparatus, devices or equipment for compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
