The Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector in Clearfield County to support the quality and safety of our infrastructure.
In this role, you will perform a range of technical inspection duties at asphalt, concrete, and aggregate plants to ensure all materials meet required specifications, contract standards, and approved Quality Control Plans.

Requirements
In this role, you will play an essential part in ensuring the quality and compliance of construction materials used in transportation projects across the region.
Your work supports the integrity and safety of Pennsylvania’s infrastructure by verifying that materials meet all required standards and specifications.
You will conduct inspections, observe testing procedures, document findings, and collaborate with technicians and supervisors to address issues promptly and accurately.
Primary Duties- Ensure all test procedures follow Pennsylvania Test Methods (PTM) as well as applicable AASHTO and ASTM standards, verifying the accuracy of laboratory reports.
- Observe material shipments to confirm that delivered products meet specifications and that weigh slips accurately represent quantities shipped.
- Witness technicians at Portland cement plants, asphalt plants, and aggregate quarries as they perform tests and manage quality control processes.
- Document sampling and testing techniques precisely, using the designated method appropriate for each specific material type.
- Identify potential issues during testing or inspection, recommend solutions when possible, and report concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Apply correct testing methods and review supplier compliance in areas such as extractions, gradations, specific gravities, absorption, air content, slump testing, unit weights, and wash tests.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule is subject to change in response to seasonal demands and operational requirements.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement: - This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
