Base salary range: $147,649 - $221,900

Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves working as a rigger at a naval shipyard, where you'll handle heavy lifting and moving of equipment and parts using cranes and rigging tools, while ensuring everything is safe and balanced.
It's perfect for someone with hands-on experience in construction or shipbuilding who is detail-oriented and comfortable making quick decisions under supervision.
No long years of experience are needed, but you must demonstrate strong practical skills in rigging and load handling.
You will serve as a RIGGER in the RIGGING BRANCH, RIGGING AND OPERATIONS DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to make difficult load routing judgements by considering size, shape, and location of object, availability and strength of overhead structure, surface conditions, obstacles, and surrounding openings.
Ability to determine exact placements of items such as padeyes, beam clamps, and chain falls used to support and balance load along the route.
Ability to have thorough knowledge of knots and hitches and be able to splice rope, cable, and fabricate various types of ship rigging and weight handling gear.
Ability to determine weights, stresses, strengths, and mechanical advantage. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work orders.
