Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing and updating technical documents, drawings, and libraries for a naval shipyard to support ship maintenance and fleet operations.

You'll handle requests for information, ensure accuracy in records, and coordinate with teams to improve how technical data is shared and accessed.

  • Skills in retrieving drawings from electronic, hard copy, and archived files, and rejecting inaccurate technical standards for correction.
  • Proficiency in keeping records to track trends, workloads, and improvements in efficiency.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST in the Technical Publications Branch (Code 244.3) of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience modifying and assessing existing information practices, adapts automation systems to solve a variety of access and dissemination problems.

Experience coordinating with the Technical Drawing Library during Fast Cruise ensuring all Selected Record Drawings are updated with redline markings from the Planning yard for fleet usage.

Experience participating in/host meetings with NAVSEA, various planning yards and/or contractors to provide guidance for NAVSEA program managers on requirements for technical information support Experience determining appropriate methods to be used to reach desired goal or complete customer requests in relation to technical information.

Experience maintaining the Technical Library and the Technical Drawing Library for the Shipyard.

  • You will reject inaccurate technical standards found within Portsmouth Sketch (PS) drawings to the appropriate technical code for correction in order to maintain technical accuracy.
  • You will work closely with Technical Codes and Waterfront support ensuring all drawing requests are met.
  • You will maintains the Technical Assessment Office located within the library.
  • You will retrieve requested copies of drawings from currently active electronic files and hard copy files as well as archived hard copy or aperture card files.
  • You will keep records of past actions to assist in detecting trends in demand, workloads, standardization, and procedural changes that may be used in improving efficiency.
