Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 (for GS-09) or GS-09 (for GS-11) in federal service, including preparing reports, interpreting regulations, analyzing information, and resolving issues
  • For GS-09: Master's degree, two years of graduate education, or related LL.B/J.D., or a combination of education and experience
  • For GS-11: Ph.D., three years of graduate education, or related LL.M., or equivalent specialized experience such as analyzing criminal history reports, conducting trainings, and advising on regulations
  • Ability to interpret and advise on federal, state, and local regulations related to controlled substances
  • Experience in preparing written materials, correspondence, and documenting research findings
  • Knowledge of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and registration processes
  • Submission of college transcripts if qualifying based on education

Full Job Description

This position is located in the DEA, Atlanta Field Division and Greensboro Resident Office.

This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as a Registration Program Specialist (RPS), which provides an serves as a key resource at the state and national levels in accordance with the states jurisdictions for all registration applicants authorized to manufacture, distribute, and prescribe controlled substances in accordance with the Controlled Substance Act (CSA).

Applicants applying for the GS-09 must meet one of the following requirements: A.

Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-07 grade level.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties: 1) preparing reports and correspondence; 2) interpreting and advising on regulations, agency rules or standards; 3) analyzing information; and 4) identifying and resolving issues or problems.

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree or a LL.B or J.D.

degree, if related OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.

To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages.

The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements: A.

Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-09 grade level.

or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Major Duties:

As a your typical work assignments may include: Serving as the registration representative and sole point of contact for the license registration program in a geographic region.

Reviewing all registration transactions to verify the internal control process has been followed, such as examining all registration transactions and rejecting those not completed in compliance with agency standards and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Maintaining liaison by phone and correspondence with state licensing boards and registration agencies.

Conducting presentations and training sessions about DEA's Registration Program and process to the registrant community.

Answering questions about a wide variety of registration requirements, procedures, and problems
