Job Description

Summary

This job involves teaching swimming lessons to people of all ages at a military base pool, from beginners to advanced swimmers, while ensuring safety through proper techniques and emergency skills.

A good fit would be someone with experience in aquatics who enjoys working with kids and adults, holds required safety certifications, and can create fun, progressive swim programs.

It's a hands-on role in a community setting on a U.S. Army installation.

Key Requirements

  • Water Safety Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized agency (e.g., American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, Star Guard)
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Work experience in aquatics or teaching swimming lessons
  • Ability to instruct all swimming levels and strokes for infants through adults
  • Knowledge of safety and survival skills in water environments
  • Lifeguard Certification (highly desirable)

Full Job Description

This position is located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Work experience related to the duties described above and possession of the following certificates: Water Safety Instructor Certification Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) First Aid Certification (Certificates issue by American Red Cross, Ellis @Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable) Highly desirable possession of a Lifeguard Certification Certificates MUST be uploaded with your Documents when submitting your application to receive credit.

Major Duties:

  • Acts as water safety instructor. Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled, at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher level of swimming according to their skills.
  • Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, to include; front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Teach students from age groups of infant through adults.
  • Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students, when appropriate to level of instruction. Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
