Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Must possess a valid, nationally recognized lifeguard certification covering lifesaving, water rescue methods, skills, procedures.
Possess a valid, nationally recognized basic first aid certification. Must possess a valid nationally recognized CPR/AED certification which includes adult, child and infant procedures.
Pre-employment screening required for swim ability, rescue skills, and CPR. Must have experience with cash handling to effectively account for large amounts of cash with little or no errors.
Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds. Must have at least 2 years' experience as a lifeguard.
Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Position of trust.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Major Duties:
Responsible for all activities within the swimming pool area during the summer open season in the absence of the Lifeguard Supervisor. Oversees up to 15 lifeguards in performance of their daily duties.
Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Instructs, cautions and expels patrons for inappropriate behavior.
Applies a variety of techniques such as rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid as required to respond to any type of safety incident.
Use all aquatic equipment as required and trains lifeguard staff on equipment such as first aid kits, buoys, ropes rescue rings, shepherd's hooks and backboards.
Responds to, documents, and reports accidents and injuries. Promptly reports results of any incident to the Lifeguard Supervisor or to the Outdoor Recreation Manager in the absence of the Supervisor.
Monitors and documents pool water chemistry (temperature, free chlorine, pH, clarity) according to established schedules, instructions and standards.
Monitors all pool areas including bathhouse, deck, lockers, showers, pool, splash pad, grounds, pavilion, and parking lot to ensure compliance with established schedules, instructions and sanitation requirements.
Reports equipment, facility, and water quality deficiencies to Lifeguard Supervisor for correction. Performs gate control and cashier duties as required in absence of cashiers.
Monitors cashier duties to ensure compliance with established cash handling procedures.
May be required to assist management in controlling access to special swim events by checking ID's and enforcing alcohol rules and regulations.
Assists Lifeguard Supervisor in scheduling and conducting youth and adult swimming lessons. Must participate in all required in-service training. Works non-regular shifts including nights and weekends.
