Summary

This job involves testing software for public safety systems in Hennepin County, working with teams to create test plans, find bugs, and ensure everything runs smoothly across different parts of applications.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to develop manual and automated test plans, document results, and participate in unit, end-to-end, and user acceptance testing
  • Hybrid work setup requiring residency in Minnesota or Wisconsin, with on-site presence in Minneapolis and flexibility for extended hours

Full Job Description

Hennepin County's Law, Safety, and Justice line of business is seeking a Quality Assurance IT Analyst II.

This position will partner with public safety businesses and IT partners to develop innovative solutions for data sharing needs and business processes.

Responsibilities include testing software in a team environment, creating and maintaining automated tests across applications, and creating formal test plans to identify defects and support training.

The candidate should have knowledge of software development concepts and practices (Agile and Waterfall), testing methodologies, and be able to test across back-end, middle-tier, and presentation layers.

The development teams are working toward using more automated tools to improve results and speed regression testing.

Experience with automated testing tools or frameworks such as SOA Test, WAVE, Selenium, and/or Cucumber is required.Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the 625 Building, 625 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require.

Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday during core business hours, with the ability to work extended hours as needed, especially for deployments.

While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:

  • Perform quality assurance work including unit and end-to-end testing and participate in user acceptance testing sessions for complex applications and integrations.
  • Develop effective test plans (both manual and automated) for existing and new applications by partnering with developers, business analysts, and customers as needed.
  • Documentation of all software testing results and repeatable test plans for projects.
  • Communicate using strong written and verbal communication skills to both technical and non-technical people.
  • Participate in development and deployment teams in both agile and traditional waterfall environments.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and other IT partners to resolve complex and critical issues.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other information technology staff and users.

Need to have:
One of the following:
  • Five years or more of information technology experience.
  • Completion of five college/vocational/technical technology courses or approved IT Hennepin County internship and three years or more of IT experience.
  • Associate's/vocational/technical degree in computer science, management information systems (MIS), information technology or an approved information technology field related to the position and three years or more of IT experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the above fields and one year or more IT experience.

Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Creating test plans and applying test-driven or behavior-driven development concepts.
    • Writing and executing automated tests using relevant tools, scripts, or languages.
    • Working within agile teams or agile frameworks.
    • Using SQL in the context of testing, quality assurance/control, or data analysis.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Agile framework and ceremonies.
    • Behavior and test-driven development practices.
    • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance policies.
  • Ability to:
    • Build relationships and promote collaboration on complex teams.
    • Balance multiple work streams and/or projects to meet team needs.
    • Understand Hennepin County IT practices and processes.
