Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing daily operations in a county precinct department focused on road construction and maintenance, including managing staff, scheduling work, and ensuring high-quality output.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in road work who enjoys leading teams, solving operational issues, and improving processes in a government setting.

Key Requirements

  • Associate’s degree plus three years of related experience in road construction and maintenance, or High School Diploma/GED plus five years of such experience
  • Class A CDL required upon hire, with tanker endorsement obtained within 30 days
  • Direct management of departmental staff, including training, performance evaluation, and motivation
  • Planning, assigning, and scheduling workloads for team members
  • Conducting quality reviews, audits, and operational corrections to ensure compliance with policies and laws
  • Coordinating with other departments and handling personnel matters like disciplinary actions
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, lift, push, and pull as needed for duties

Full Job Description

Provide management of the day-to-day operations of the department and oversight of the work production, quantity and quality of work completed. Schedules work assignments, assigns hours and work locations. This position may also train and/or evaluate employees. Handles difficult problems, develops and documents programs and curriculum, monitors departmental resources and ensures compliance with policies and laws.

Requirements

1. Directly responsible for the management of departmental/work unit staff
2. Provides training to staff members as required
3. Plans, assigns and is responsible for the workload and schedules of team/work unit members
4. Evaluates performance of subordinates, identifying strengths/weaknesses, providing employee development guidance and motivation, or making recommendations for replacement when appropriate
5. Acts as a resource for staff questions regarding customer issues, policies, etc
6. Coordinates activities with other departments to expedite work and improve performance
7. Performs quality reviews/audits of department's work and makes operational corrections as necessary
8. Establishes and enforces procedures to expedite and improve processes
9. Participates in personnel matters including disciplinary actions and resolution of departmental disputes
10. Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Precinct as assigned or required

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree + three (3) full-time years of related working experience (including concepts, practices and procedures in the field of road construction and maintenance)-OR-
  • High School Diploma or GED + five (5) full-time years of related working experience (including concepts, practices and procedures in the field of road construction and maintenance)
  • Class A CDL upon hire with tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
