DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for managing, administering, and documenting technical direction in the installation, maintenance and repair of the Houston Police Department’s mobile technology systems, including P25 mobile and portable radios, initial triage of mobile video systems, and mobile data systems.
Supervising the activities of a group of radio telecommunications technicians in one or more technical areas. Prepares, reviews and updates programming and repair of radio communications equipment.
Documents and reports status of projects and team functions. Develop and document weekly, quarterly, and annual goals and results for each team member consistent with the goals of the department.
Responsible for performance appraisal for positions under their direction. Ensures work orders, procedures, and documentation are timely and professional.
Inspect all mobile systems to ensure compliance with approved division and vendor specifications. Reports to the Assistant Director of Public Safety Communications.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.
EDUCATION
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.
Information systems-specific technical certifications may be substituted for 1 year of either the education or the experience requirement, as applicable.
Related professional Information Systems experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
EXPERIENCE
At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware.
System-specific technical certifications will often be required.
System-specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience.
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.
