Full Job Description

This position works within The Fisher House at the VA STL Health Care System.

The Fisher House Program is a Veteran-Family-Caregiver centric way for VHA to provide lodging and support to family members of VA patients and Department of Defense service members, thereby increasing the patient's support system and promoting wellness.

The PSA works closely with the Fisher House Program Manager and Assistant Manager to assist with the day-to-day operations of the 16-bedroom family hospitality house.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/20/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Prepares department correspondence; Uses computer technology equipment; Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences; Provides program coordination support; and Identifies barriers to providing exceptional customer service.

Major Duties:

Major duties include but are not limited to: Provides program coordination support in overseeing, monitoring, and coordinating the Fisher House Lodging Program, 16-room multi-family lodging site.

Assists with inquiries to include lodging eligibility, referral processes, and staff/volunteer opportunities.

Participates in the execution of policies and procedures for scheduling of available guest rooms, check-ins, checkouts, orientation of guests, monitoring guest conduct, and participating in management inspections of guest rooms.

Participates in the development, establishment, and implementation of operational policies related to eligibility, admission, length of stay, behavior standards of guests, cleanliness, and state of repair of the facility.

Responsible for operations management during weekend shifts, to include, but not limited to enforcement of rules and regulations and addressing those who fail to follow established procedures.

Fund Control Point Clerk - Responsible for the Fisher House Program FCP and General Post Fund accounts.

Acts as a Purchase Card Holder and uses the purchase card for services and supplies to support the operation and services of the Fisher House Program.

Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Work Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday from 10:30am-7:00pm Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
