Summary

This job is for a secretary who supports attorneys in a U.S. government legal office by handling tasks like managing schedules, screening calls and mail, preparing documents, and organizing case files.

GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.

Specialized experience is defined as performing a wide range of secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment.

Examples include: exercising control over the supervisor's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences; receiving telephone calls and visitors, screening those which could be handled without supervisor's help; reading, screening, and controlling incoming mail; preparing necessary documents for investigative and litigative steps; organizes electronic case files, discovery materials, exhibits and other legal documents; performing a variety of special assignments of a one-time or recurring nature for the supervisor; and providing the supervisor with information, feedback, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations on various administrative matters and topics.

GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level.

Specialized experience is defined as performing a wide range of high-level secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment.

Examples include: reviewing all outgoing correspondence prepared for the supervisor's signature, e.g., action documents, case files, legal documents, and reports; composing a variety of written material for the supervisor's signature; developing a variety of recurring reports and documents which involve obtaining information from staff, subject files or other sources; arranging conferences and meetings for the supervisor; and organizing electronic case files, discovery materials, exhibits and other legal documents.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

(A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.

To be well-qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria.

If selected for this position, you will serve as the secretary to the United States Attorney (USA), providing a variety of technical and administrative support services.

Typical work assignments will include: Exercise exclusive control over the USA and FAUSA's (First Assistant United States Attorney) calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences with complete authority.

Reads, screens and controls incoming mail. Screens telephone calls and visitors desiring to speak to the USA and FAUSA. Composes a variety of written material.

Makes travel arrangements for the USA and FAUSA. Helps coordinates a variety of media events with, or on the behalf of the USA. Arranges conferences and meetings for the USA and FAUSA.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
