Full Job Description

This position serves as Surgery Service Program Support Assistant (PSA) and works collaboratively with members of the Surgical Service and other service lines in support of the medical center and its affiliate, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/08/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-06 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 level: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as Program Support Assistant.

Qualifying specialized experience includes experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; and providing information and customer service.

Major Duties:

Assists RN Nurse Navigators, Advanced Practice Providers, and Physicians with coordinating and scheduling patients at the MUSC Operating Room.

Coordinates information flow between MUSC and the medical center as well as implements methods to improve accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and dissemination.

Arranges for the pickup of pathology samples. Ensures educational, informational pamphlets are up to date and distributes post-op materials to patients.

Uses data retrieval systems, such as VSSC (Veterans Support Service Center), CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System), VSE (Veterans Scheduling Enhancement), VISTA (Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture), and Pyramid (a reporting and analytics platform) for profiling providers, monitoring physician productivity, and improving performance.

Ensures timely compliance with security and IT requirements to maintain access to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software.

Plans, develops, and monitors new employee orientation as well as assists with daily timekeeping.

Assists the Administrative Officer in proposal development for equipment procurement, prioritizing the service's needs, and preparation of all required paperwork.

Serves as Assistant Contracting Officer Representative (COR), assisting the Administrative Officer and other Surgical Service staff with preparing and submitting documents to maintain the contract between the medical center and MUSC.

Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Work schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
