About the Position: This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)).

This position may be eligible for situational telework as determined by the agency policy.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Management would prefer candidates who have experience in demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the unique structures across all branches of the Military Services to ensure programs and policies are effectively implemented and communicated department wide.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

Major Duties:

  • Develop and improve the effectiveness of the administrative work methods and procedures, information and documentation systems.
  • Provide responsive and reliable executive support, including correspondence management (internal and external).
  • Develop and implement procedures and guidelines concerning a variety of management programs.
  • Research, analyze, and synthesize information from various sources (reports, programs, organizations) to prepare comprehensive reports, position papers, and presentations.
  • Create databases, reporting procedures, and data displays to depict the needs of service members and their families and the programs addressing those needs.
  • Identify and investigate potential problem areas to develop solutions and new management/program objectives.
