Summary

This job is an entry-level internship assisting the Director of Governmental Affairs in a state military department, where you'll research and track legislation, monitor legislative calendars, attend meetings, and handle administrative tasks to support interactions with constituents and officials.

Full Job Description

Serve as the Assistant to the Director of Governmental Affairs providing services to constituents and government officials. Research, track and summarize legislation that could impact SCMD, monitor the State House calendar, floor debate calendars, and legislative committee meeting calendars and help coordinate the scheduling of agency representation of matters, as appropriate. Prepare for and attend General Assembly chamber sessions, committee hearings, staff meetings and others meetings deemed necessary. Provide other office/administrative tasks in support of the director of governmental affairs.

Requirements

High school diploma and must be currently enrolled in college pursuing an under-graduate or graduate degree or already successfully graduated from college.

Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in political science, law, communications, or public relations. Must possess outstanding personal relationships and communicate skills in a genuine, friendly and positive way. Must be actively or previously involved in extracurricular activities – especially in a leadership or socially-interactive role. Experience in legislative affairs and/or interest in public policy. Must have knowledge of the legislative process. Must have the ability to research and analyze issues and collect, compile and assemble information in a clear and concise manner. Must have the ability to handle confidential matters.
