Full Job Description

You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER (PIPEFITTER) in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Projects scheduling for all Technical Work Documents (TWD's), supporting documentation, and materials needed to complete assigned tasks.

*Facilitates communication between zone managers and shop codes to review work progress. *Reviews material problems and initiating corrective actions.

*Aids in the planning of the department's annual fiscal budget.

*Utilizes oral and written communication with various levels of personnel Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.

  • You will be responsible for all Shop planning on assigned projects.
  • You will complete Task Packages that are to be presented to the production foremen.
  • You will track materials to ensure their availability for scheduled jobs.
  • You will perform reviews of work in progress and scheduled work.
  • You will work closely with project and supply personnel to coordinate the staging and issuing of materials.
