Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing nuclear production operations at a naval shipyard, ensuring that work on submarine reactors is done safely, on schedule, and meets high technical standards while minimizing radiation risks to workers.

The role supports the Navy's fleet by managing teams and resources for overhauls, repairs, and testing of nuclear systems.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a DEPUTY NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER in the NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working with the principles and processes related to Nuclear Production Resource programs to include overhauling, repairing, refueling, and testing naval reactor plants.

Experience applying the latest technical developments to ensure that latest concepts are reflected in current operations, future plans and decisions.

Experience structuring the Nuclear training program for Production Resource Personnel that incorporates Dept. of Navy (DON) and Dept.

of Energy (DOE) directives as well as NAVSEA instructions, manuals, specifications, and Shipyard regulations/directives.

Experience monitoring Nuclear Production Operations to identify areas which need improvement.

Experience conducting investigations of potential or existing program areas affecting nuclear production operations.

  • You will ensure that naval nuclear production work is accomplished on time, with minimum radiation exposure to personnel.
  • You will ensure that naval nuclear production work is accomplished in accordance with specified technical requirements, including quality and radiological controls and good workmanship standards.
  • You will ensure that adequate planning and schedules are provided for naval nuclear work.
  • You will direct nuclear production work through the applicable Project Superintendents or Nuclear Assistant Project Superintendents in the Operations Department.
  • You will direct nuclear production work through the applicable functional Superintendents and Nuclear Directors in the Production Resources/Product Line and Lifting and Handling Departments.
  • You will ensure that lists of Production Resources and Lifting and Handling Departments personnel qualified for nuclear work are maintained and concurring in such lists.
  • You will ensure adequate manpower resources, training and equipment are provided to prepare for and perform reactor plant work.
  • You will advise the Production Resources/Product Line and Lifting and Handling Departments on functions such as training, merit promotions, leave, and other such administrative matters concerning department personnel assigned to naval nuclear work.
  • You will advise the Operations Officer, Production Resources Officer, Product Line Officer, Lifting and Handling Manager, and Shipyard Commander if supporting effort from other departments is not adequate, and of the action to resolve the matter.
  • You will manage the Shipyard’s program for minimizing personnel radiation exposure.
  • You will coordinate the accomplishment of naval nuclear work on projects assigned to the Operations Department, primarily through direct contact with Assistant Project Superintendent for nuclear work.
  • You will develop a training plan for qualifying Assistant Project Superintendents for nuclear work in necessary requirements to ensure consistent conduct of naval nuclear work among projects.
  • You will coordinate assignment of properly trained and qualified nuclear mechanics among various projects assigned to the Operations Department and areas of the Production Resources/Product Line and Lifting and Handling Departments.
  • You will work concurrently with the Integrated Planning Group and Project Superintendents during the project planning process.
  • You will assess schedule and cost performance of nuclear work among various projects assigned to the Operations Department and applicable functional areas of the Production Resources/Product Line and Lifting and Handling Departments.
  • You will resolve schedule and execution problems for nuclear work with the Project Superintendents in the Operations Department and Superintendents in the Production Resources/Product Line and Lifting and Handling Departments.
