This job involves handling buying tasks for supplies and services needed in Michigan's correctional facilities, such as creating orders, checking requests, and dealing with vendors while following state rules.
It's a support role in a government office that manages purchases for multiple prisons.
A good fit would be someone organized with basic office experience in buying or inventory, who pays attention to details and works well with people inside and outside the organization.
This position will perform procurement functions encompassing a broad array of procurement activities in accordance with Department policies and Procedures for the CFA Jackson Business Office.
He/She will assist with purchasing needed supplies and services for correctional facilities serviced by the CFA Jackson Business Office which include Gus Harrison, Detroit Detention Center, Bellamy Creek, Ionia, G.
Robert Cotton, Cooper Street, Lakeland, Macomb, Richard Handlon, Charles Egeler, Special Alternative Incarceration, Parnall, Thumb, Woodland, Womens Huron Valley and Southern Regional Business Office.
This position must have knowledge of State purchasing regulations, rules, and practices, as well as, laws pertaining to State purchasing and State contracts.
This position will have contact with vendors for purchases of needed products and/or services.
Along with handling various purchasing functions, such as checking accuracy of information in purchasing requests, creating purchase orders, maintaining files, and meeting with various clients (internal and external).

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
Procurement Technician 7
One year of administrative support procurement experience in a purchasing office equivalent to the experienced level, or one year of experience in the receipt, storage, and distribution of supplies and materials equivalent to the 7 level.
OR
Completion of a one-year college level business program may be substituted for the entry level (7 level) experience requirements.
Procurement Technician 8
One year of experience equivalent to a Procurement Technician 7, or one year of administrative support procurement experience in a purchasing office equivalent to the advanced level, or one year of experience in the receipt, storage, and distribution of supplies and materials equivalent to the 8 level.
Procurement Technician E9
Two years of experience equivalent to a Procurement Technician, including one year equivalent to a Procurement Technician 8.
Procurement Technician 10
Three years of experience equivalent to a Procurement Technician, including two years equivalent to a Procurement Technician 8 or one year equivalent to a Procurement Technician E9.
Procurement Technician 7
Completion of a one-year college level business program may be substituted for the entry level (7 level)experience requirements.
Procurement Technician E9
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and two years of job-related experience qualifies for the experienced level Procurement Technician E9 classification.
The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.
All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their Non-Custody New Employee Training. PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
