Key Requirements

Positions in the Printing Services Operation Series operate a variety of printing, reproduction and related equipment to provide reproduced documents to County departments and special districts.

Printing Services Supervisor is the full supervisory level class responsible for the planning, organization, and direction of a group of assigned positions. Positions allocated to this level require the regular and continuous performance of the full range of supervisory duties.

Requirements

Knowledge of
  • Principles of effective supervision, shop management and training
  • Various types of document reproduction equipment and processes including offset printing, digital copying, photocopy, imaging and bindery functions; papers, films, inks, chemical and other materials used in production work
  • Scheduling of work flow processes
  • Budget preparation
  • Printing design, composing, layout and publication production techniques
  • Safety and hazardous materials handling requirements
  • Personal computers and network concepts relating to digital copy systems
Ability to
  • Plan, organize and direct work of others
  • Work well with other agencies and departments in planning, scheduling and completing job orders
  • Maintain records and prepare reports
  • Prepare job cost estimates
  • Plan and supervise service expansion, including satellite printing and scanning services
  • Communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing, at a level necessary for successful job performance
  • Move boxes of paper and other supplies

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Either 1. One year experience as a Senior Printing Services Operator in Sacramento County service.

Or 2. Four years total experience including two years in the operation of offset printing presses and two years of computer document reproduction. Experience must include two years working in the supervisory/lead worker capacity.

Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

Special Requirements

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 80 lbs. and stand for a long duration.

Driver License: Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher.

Note:
(1) Failure to maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C or higher constitutes cause for termination from the class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4.

2) Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Probationary Period

The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.

    FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)


    All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.


    This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience.

    The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination.

    Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete.

    The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.


    All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox.

    Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
