Summary

This job is for a police officer on a U.S.

Army military installation, where you'll patrol the area on foot, bike, or vehicle to keep things safe, respond to emergencies, make arrests if needed, and investigate incidents to protect people and property.

It's ideal for someone with prior law enforcement or security experience who is physically fit, reliable, and committed to serving in a structured military environment.

No college degree can replace the needed hands-on experience, so real-world background in policing is key.

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: You will perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of a military installation.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property and includes performing investigations; performing bicycle, vehicle, or foot patrol duties; resolving conflicts using standard police procedures; responding to vehicle accidents, gathering and analyzing facts, preserving evidence, preparing diagrams, or interviewing witnesses and persons involved in investigations.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Additional Conditions of Employment: TDY travel is occasionally required.

Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.

Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter. Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).

NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.

The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers.

The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect.

Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.

Major Duties:

  • Perform bicycle, vehicle and foot patrol duties.
  • Respond to emergency calls, exercise arrest authority, investigate situations, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, administer first aid, summon assistance, protect persons from further harm and preserve evidence.
  • Verify individual's right to enter restricted areas as well as deny access to unauthorized persons.
  • Interview witnesses and persons involved, and prepare written reports.
  • Perform general office responsibilities to include preparing reports and forms, recording messages, composing statements, completing forms.
  • Periodically serve as Desk Sergeant with responsibility for the operation of the installation security communications police network mobile patrols throughout the installation, and access control.
