Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a WG-4206-09, Plumber located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Director of Operational Logistics (DOL-3), Base Cape Cod, Facilities Engineering Department (FED), Public Works Division in Buzzards Bay, MA.

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading. Measurement and Layout. Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic). Troubleshooting.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Plumber and be responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance (PM/CM) on plumbing, electrical and air conditioning, HVAC, as well as a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Following sketches, specifications, guides, codes, verbal orders, and supervisory instructions to complete all maintenance, improvement, and repair work associated with water distribution, filtration and plumbing systems, sanitary and storm-water drainage systems and their associated components.

Assembling, installing, maintaining and pressure testing all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Carrying out repair, maintenance, or installation of equipment for the generation, utilization, or distribution of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) systems.

Troubleshooting the sources of plumbing and HVAC malfunctions and completing repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
