Job Description

Summary

This role involves teaching patient care technician courses at a community college, including classroom lectures, hands-on training, and supervising students in clinical settings like hospitals or long-term care facilities.

Full Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Instruction including hands on and theory, classroom management, and administrative tasks that may include reports, syllabus and lesson plan development.
  • Prepare and/or maintain current course syllabi for course taught.
  • Ensure course is taught in accordance with the established syllabus.
  • Assess the accomplishment of students on a regular basis.
  • Maintain records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
  • Direct supervision of students in a variety of clinical settings.

Instructional Development

  • Recommend for approval adequate instructional materials for course.
  • Work with other areas of the college such as Tutoring, Retention, etc. to help ensure student success.
  • Recommend adequate laboratory facilities/equipment for assigned course.

Professional Development

  • Attend relevant professional meetings.
  • Represent the College positively in interactions with the community and with professional and academic groups at local, state, and national levels.
  • Maintain frequent communication with PCT program faculty (or course coordinators).

Requirements

  • Associate degree (Nursing)
  • At least two (2) years of RN experience including at least one (1) year of experience in long-term care nursing services or care of elderly within the last five years
  • Active, unencumbered SC RN license
  • Current American Heart Association Provider CPR (Adult & Child)
  • Must meet all requirements for clinical participation per clinical facility.

Qualifications

  • Previous teaching or training experience preferred but not required.
  • At least two (2) years of recent practical experience with venipuncture and specimen collection and/or electrocardiogram in a clinical setting.
  • Current American Heart Association Instructor CPR (Adult & Child)
