This is a temporary position located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health – Inpatient Services. You will provide services at G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, Forensics, and Morris Village.


As the Psychiatrist, working under limited supervision, you will perform services to the Inpatient Hospital Divisions. Exercises medical responsibility for a hospital(s) psychiatric units & MV Alcohol & Substance Abuse Treatment facility while on call. Interviews, examines, diagnoses, and treats mental or substance abuse disorders of patient(s) and/or resident(s). Performs professional duties requiring analysis of broad and complex psychiatric and medical issues.

Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist/Physician II:
  • Direct medical process of acute and/or patients while on call. Requires knowledge of managing aggressive patients with chronic and persistent mental illness.
  • Provide psychiatric and medical care to patients as needed while OD/ON. This care may include but not limited to provider notes, patient exams. Seclusion and restraint, acute agitation, medication orders, etc.
  • Complete paperwork and orders to admissions for Bryan Psychiatric Hospital and Morris Village. Screen admissions and completes doc to doc as indicated or as needed.
  • Conduct rounds with staff professionals as needed or indicated; conduct examinations and provide treatment orders in person and/or verbally and/or in person.
  • Act as resource consultant to staff members and performs other duties as required. Compliance with all SCOMH training to include annual MAPS, MANDT, CPR and other training as required. Complete all licensure requirements annually to include CMEs.

  • Ability to work within a secure building in an inpatient facility.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Information

Post hire, employees must:
  • Be able to work in high security atmosphere with detainees who have a high potential for violence.

The salary for this position is $75.00 hourly for in house and $30 hourly for beeper.
