Requirements

In this position, you are responsible for public safety work in the field of State Park operations and outdoor recreation in order to promote the safe utilization of facilities at Moraine State Park Complex. Duties include providing information, rules, and regulations to park visitors, directing park visitors away from hazardous and unsafe conditions, and educating patrons on the use of park resources and facilities in a designated area. You will maintain and monitor publicly-accessible rescue equipment and public safety-first aid kits. Rangers respond to emergency situations, including water and automobile accidents and, in cases of emergency, make appropriate notification to emergency personnel while administering first-aid as necessary. Additionally, you will inspect park grounds, buildings, structures and facilities for security and safety issues, reporting violations to appropriate personnel.

This position also serves as the primary contact at the Marina, McConnells Mill Historic Gristmill and Park Office when needed. You will assist with the clerical functions at the Park's two marinas. This involves processing mooring reservations, including receiving payment, utilizing waiting list and transfer list features to assign slips in the correct order, processing early departures, and issuing refunds. Park Resource Rangers will check on marina patrons and issue mooring permits, assign mooring decals, and inspect boats at the beginning of the season and throughout the season as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits.

The season runs from approximately April 2026 until October 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.

  • Work schedule will vary. Work will be scheduled 5 days/37.5 hours per week and will include a 30-minute lunch.
    • Work may be scheduled on weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Special Requirements:

    • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
    • All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

    Legal Requirements:
    • You must pass a background investigation.
    • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
      • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
    • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
