Job Description

Summary

This job involves using math, statistics, and computer models to analyze and improve military operations, especially in maritime and international security efforts in Europe and Africa.

The role supports planning teams, prepares reports with recommendations, and helps run smooth daily operations for naval commands with little supervision.

It's a good fit for someone with strong analytical skills, experience in data modeling, and interest in defense strategy who can work independently in a fast-paced overseas environment.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent in applying analytical, mathematical, or statistical methods to develop models and solve problems
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, computer modeling, decision theory, mathematical programming, and economic analysis
  • Ability to design and develop techniques to enhance performance, efficiency, and effectiveness in operations
  • Experience developing cost, schedule, and resource estimates for studies and analyses in maritime or Theater Security Cooperation operations
  • Skills in preparing reports on problem definitions, methodologies, findings, recommendations, and alternative actions
  • Familiarity with facilitating operations for Maritime Headquarters, Maritime Operations Center, JFMCC, and JTF staff

Full Job Description

You will serve as an OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST in the NAVEUR/NAVAF/COMSIXTHFLT, of COMMANDER US NAVAL FORCES EUROPE, Capodichino, Italy In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying advanced analytical, mathematical, or statistical theories, principles, concepts, methods, and techniques related to statistical analysis, computer modeling, decision theory, mathematical programming, and economic analysis sufficient to serve as an authority in an organization responsible for developing analytical models and methods; Designing and developing the most appropriate techniques to solve problems, enhance performance, or increase efficiency and effectiveness; and Developing cost, schedule, and resource estimates for studies and analyses, and identify the required information or equipment necessary to complete comprehensive mission analysis in maritime and Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) operations.

  • You will perform professional and scientific work requiring the design, development, and adaptation of mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other scientific methods and techniques.
  • You will facilitate operations for the Maritime Headquarters (MHQ), Maritime Operations Center (MOC), and Joint Force Maritime Component Commander (JFMCC) staff and Joint Task Force Commander (JTF) staff.
  • You will function as an Operations Research Analyst (ORA) and ensure that day-to-day operational functions are conducted seamlessly with minimal guidance.
  • You will prepare reports addressing problem definitions, analytical methodologies, findings, recommendations and alternative courses of action.
  • You will support staff planning by participating in Operational Planning Teams (OPTs) to provide feedback and recommendations to the Commander and staff.
