  • Strong focus on workplace safety, including daily employee interactions and behavior modeling

This position is part of the To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Offset Press Operator Supervisor.

Applicants must meet the following Screen Out-Element #1 to be considered for this position.

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire.

If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.

The screen-out element for this position is: Job Element # 73 - Ability to Lead or Supervise.

Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of this position.

These duties include: 1) Providing leadership, coaching, behavior modeling, and training to employees regarding safe and efficient performance of their job; 2) Planning and prioritizing workload and assignments; 3) Establishing performance standards and evaluating performance of subordinates ; And 4) Coordinating work with other shifts and other functional areas.

In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix A): 1.

Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2.

Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3.

Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.(add supervisory statement from MP Plan).

OR (1) a baccalaureate degree or 3 years of responsible experience in the printing industry equivalent to, at a minimum, the GPO journeyperson level.

(2) 2 years of experience in the printing industry of a scope and quality sufficient to carry out the duties of the vacant position, 1 year of which must have been at a comparable to the GS-12 level.

(3) served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO.

For positions at the Offset Press Operator Supervisor level (or comparable positions), applicants must meet the qualifications listed above the level and also meet the following requirements: (1) Have completed at least 4 years of responsible experience in the division of the vacant position.

(2) Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

Major Duties:

  • Responsible for safety throughout the facility through daily safety contacts with employees by providing leadership, coaching, behavior modeling, and training to employees regarding safe and efficient performance of their jobs.
  • Responsible for payroll, daily leave and attendance issues, proper documentation.
  • Responsible for subordinate evaluations, EQPR, Performance Plans, Emergency and Exempt forms, signatures for all required GPO documentation.
  • Responsible for Employee Relation issues, coaching, documentation, knowledge of GPO Directive, Disciplinary actions.
  • Schedules work within accordance with Lean tools and the effective use of employees and resources.
