This senior nuclear engineer role at a naval shipyard involves overseeing nuclear operations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and leading teams to manage projects related to reactor plants and hazardous materials.
It focuses on reviewing technical documents, mentoring staff, and solving complex problems to keep shipyard activities safe and efficient.

You will serve as a SENIOR NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Nuclear Facilities and Waste Engineering Division (Code 2380), Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (Code 2300) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying nuclear regulations, policies, and operational requirements, demonstrating ability to translate these requirements into practical implementation strategies, conducting compliance audits and assessments, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience managing relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, leading to positive outcomes for the organization.
Experience leading major projects with significant organizational impact, demonstrating effective resource management, timeline adherence, and budget control within RCRA, TSCA, DOT or nuclear frameworks.
Experience developing and implementing strategic plans that align with organizational goals and ensure compliance with RCRA, TSCA, DOT, or nuclear regulations, policies, and procedures.
Experience mentoring team members, fostering their professional growth, and ensuring they possess the necessary competencies in RCRA, TSCA, DOT, or nuclear operations.
Experience understanding waste management, chemical management, nuclear operations or transportation of hazardous materials processes and regulations.
