Key Requirements

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the PROJECT ENGINEERING AND PLANNING OFFICE of PSNS and IMF.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer developing and coordinating nuclear ship work packages to address project objectives for the overhaul, refueling, alteration, repair, maintenance, and testing of nuclear reactor plants of surface ships.

  • You will prepare management plans for assigned projects and obtains Nuclear Engineering and Planning Manager’s approval for these plans.
  • You will monitor performance of reactor plant work, identify problems, evaluate alternate approaches to work performance and provide direction to appropriate Shipyard managers responsible for this work.
  • You will coordinate work projects between the individual divisions of the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department and with other Shipyard departments.
  • You will coordinate cost analyses for assigned projects and, for NEPD, evaluate and initiate action to obtain funds or to resolve funding problems.
  • You will prepare or direct development of comprehensive project reports for Shipyard management and Headquarters.
  • You will coordinate action leading to and obtains approvals for operations involving reactor startup; determines acceptable uses for reactor power, assures amount of power to be used is minimized and obtains Headquarters’ approval for power usage.
  • You will coordinate efforts of organizations involved in testing requiring reactor power.
  • You will provide administrative and technical supervision to an assigned subordinate group.
