Summary

This job involves driving large trucks and trailers to transport materials and equipment between naval facilities, performing basic maintenance on vehicles, and handling cargo with heavy equipment.

  • Ability to independently operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) rated up to 20,000 lbs
  • Knowledge of arranging and loading cargo for safe transport and proper unloading sequence

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the AVIATION LOGISTICS DEPARTMENT of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PUGET SOUND.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • You will operate, and perform operator maintenance on straight in-line trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 lbs and truck tractor and semi-trailer combinations of 80,000 lbs GVW.
  • You will operate trailers including enclosed vans, flatbeds, equipment trailers, lowboy trailers to 60 tons capacity, and occasionally other types of specialized trucks, tractor or truck-tractor combinations, which may include dual braking systems.
  • You will drive vehicles on specific trips or on regularly established schedules and routes in order to transport material and equipment within government installations, and between government installations.
  • You will maintain trip records or logs showing time of departure, sequence of stops, time of return, trip mileage, fuel and oil consumption, accidents, damages, or traffic violations.
  • You will independently operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) rated up to 20,000 lbs.
  • You will arrange cargo load for best support and to ensure the proper unloading sequence and, on occasion, may assist or direct the arrangement of cargo load out.
