Summary

Key Requirements

  • Leadership experience: Passing on instructions, demonstrating work methods, providing on-the-job training, and reporting issues to supervisors
  • Safety compliance: Ensuring regulations are followed, identifying vehicle/equipment deficiencies, and reporting violations
  • Physical capability: Standing/driving for long periods, bending/stooping, lifting up to 40 lbs (with assistance for heavier), and working in inclement weather
  • Administrative duties: Acting as alternate timekeeper using computers, suggesting performance awards, and approving leave when needed
  • Experience transporting hazardous, explosive, or radioactive materials in congested or industrial areas

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying.

Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job.

Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort Stands on hard surfaces or drives for extended periods of time.

Bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds.

Climbs on trailers, uses chains and straps and other restraining devices to properly secure loads.

Working Conditions Works out outside and inside areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury.

Wears proper protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, hardhats, safety glasses and earplugs. Transports hazardous, explosive, and radioactive materials.

Operates vehicles/equipment in severely congested areas, high vehicle/personnel traffic areas, and industrial environments. Works in all types of inclement weather when loading or unloading vehicle.

Major Duties:

  • Passes on instructions from supervisor and, when required, demonstrates proper work methods.
  • Provides additional on the- job training and instruction required by individual employees and reports any problems to the supervisor.
  • Ensures any vehicle, equipment, and workplace deficiencies are identified and documented.
  • Ensures all safety regulations are followed and reports violations.
  • Perform duties as alternate timekeeper for Transportation Dept, will require use of a computer. Makes suggestions for performance awards. May approve leave when supervisor is not available.
