Full Job Description

The primary objective of the Motor Carrier Audit intern position will be to assist the office of Motor Vehicle Division with audit of motor carriers operating under IFTA & IRP

  • Perform review of International Fuel Tax Association (IFTA) fuel tax returns & International Registration Plan (IRP) filings
  • Prepare work papers to document analytical procedures in the audit process
  • Prepare final reports with audit findings

Candidate must be able to interpret and apply different federal reimbursement policies and procedures based on the claimant’s type of business.

Must be able to work well with others, communicate effectively and possess knowledge of auditing techniques and cost accounting.

Must have experience working with excel spreadsheets, word documents and be able to navigate through various computer systems and applications.

Must have completed the courses listed under “Required Qualifications”.

Candidate will learn how to work with risk assessments, develop professional judgment relating to audit risk and materiality, learn audit analytical skills, compliance auditing. Candidate will be learning IFTA/IRP regulations.

Duration: Part-time during fall and spring semesters (up to 20-hours per week). Ideal candidate will continue working full-time (up to 40 hours/week) during the summer semester.

Qualifications

Requirements: Currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution.

Eligible majors: Accounting Student. Minimum course work required: Intermediate Accounting I & II and Cost Accounting.
