Summary

This job involves reviewing and organizing patient medical records in a military hospital to ensure they are accurate, complete, and follow rules from health organizations.

You'll check charts for missing information, contact doctors if needed, and use computer systems to track files.

About the Position: This position is located at the 59th Medical Wing - Joint Base San Antonio - Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center; Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative functions in a medical facility, analyzing medical records for accuracy, and utilizing automated systems to input or retrieve medical record data.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Care Administration.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Analyze medical records retrospectively for adherences to organizational, and Joint Commission (JC) policies.
  • File results of various diagnosis tests in patients’ charts for professional staff reference and assures required forms are complete and signed.
  • Contact appropriate medical staff regarding questions on the completion of medical records.
  • Promote records accountability and ensure all medical records are accounted for via the automated or manual record tracking system.
  • Ascertain that all established clinical diagnoses are listed in order of clinical importance in relation to current period of hospitalization and that the terminology is in accordance with accepted nomenclature.
  • Ensure initial medical history, progress notes, special tests and records of examinations include sufficient data in support of established diagnosis, surgical, and medical procedures, injuries, etc.
  • Organize record in proper sequence, reviews for chronological consistency and ensures correct identification of each record form, signatures, and presence of all reports with appear to be indicated by the nature of each case.
