The Department of Human Services, Wernersville State Hospital, is seeking a motivated person to work as a Medical Records Assistant.

In this role with our team, you will be primarily responsible for organizing and performing technical work of transcribing reports for patients' medical records from digital dictation system and review documentation for clarification.

Requirements

As a Medical Records Assistant, you will organize and perform the specialized clerical work in the creation, maintenance, classification, review, and abstraction of medical records.

This involves completing release of information and correspondence requests, abstraction and analysis of medical records, transcription, Medicare billing, ICD-10 coding, report writing, chart reviews, database entry and maintenance, and other general medical record and office functions.

You will also verify coding of patients' diagnoses as part transcribing certain medical record reports.

The duties of this role require travel to all patient areas (units) to code and audit inpatient procedures performed by physicians and psychologists.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel - as needed
  • May change based on operational needs.
  • Free parking!
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or
  • Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training..

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
