King County is seeking applicants for the position of Mail Services Specialist (Administrative Specialist I).

King County Mail Services provides outstanding customer service to the departments, divisions, and units of King County government through the efficient and friendly delivery of and management of mail.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills, be detail-oriented, and perform well, both individually and as part of a team.

ABOUT RECORDS & LICENSING SERVICES (RALS)

The Records and Licensing Services Division (RALS) is a division of the Department of Executive Services.

RALS operates within a statutory framework that is prescribed by state law and county code.

Many of the services administered by the division are mandated by state law, and are provided in King County on a regional basis across jurisdictional boundaries.

RALS also provides certain local services to unincorporated King County and by contract with many local municipalities throughout King County.

In addition, RALS is responsible for providing internal services that are necessary for purposes of business efficiency and meeting various legal responsibilities.

RALS is responsible for:

  • Recording documents related to real property sales and other transactions and making them accessible for members of the public, businesses, and other government agencies
  • Collecting and dispersing real estate excise tax payments on the conveyance of real property in King County
  • Providing licensing and information services and promoting public safety by administering and enforcing vehicle and vessel licensing and taxi and transportation network company (TNC) regulations
  • Providing internal mail services and physical and electronic records management services to all county agencies
  • Providing animal care and control services for the protection of property, human health, and safety and promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through education and licensing programs via public and private sector partnerships

Requirements

Scope of Job Duties: To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum demonstrate skill and ability to:

  • Perform a variety of technical, clerical and administrative support activities relating to interoffice mail distribution of both incoming and outgoing mail for King County agencies and general mail room housekeeping;
  • Receive, sort, distribute and meter United State Postal Service (USPS) and interoffice mail;
  • Deliver and collect mail throughout King County on a prescribed route, on foot and by vehicle, on a regular schedule and in all weather conditions;
  • Provide outstanding customer service and handle inquiries, questions and complaints from customers;
  • Keep accurate records of postage usage, operate and maintain a high volume postage meter and handle undeliverable mail in accordance with established procedures;
  • Other administrative and clerical support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Can effectively communicate with a wide audience in varied communication settings;
  • Have the ability to safely operate motorized delivery vehicles, including driving throughout the county in a timely manner, parking at designated locations, on- and off-loading equipment and mail;
  • Have strong attention to detail;
  • Can safely and knowledgeably use delivery equipment such as hand trucks, carts and dollies and a high-volume mailing machine;
  • Can thrive independently with little supervision and be willing to work collaboratively as part of a team to build relationships with your peers and consultants;
  • Are proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Microsoft Outlook and Word;
  • Can prioritize work load and adapt to changes and interruptions.

  • The position of Mail Services Specialist is a physical job. You must be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively, sustain prolonged standing, walking and constant body shifting for extended periods of time on a daily basis;
  • You must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and three (3) years documented driving experience with a safe driving record (you will be asked to provide a driving abstract);
  • The successful candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment physical during which all of these capacities will be tested is a requirement for this position;
  • This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117 Administrative P&T.
