About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia.

General Experience: One year of general experience is progressively responsible for sorting and distributing internal documents, processing incoming or outgoing mail, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as processing, routing, and distributing accountable and non-accountable mail and packages.

OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Reading Comprehension Self-Management Teamwork Major Duties:

  • Receive mail from U.S. Post Service (USPS) delivery truck on a daily basis.
  • Receive packages delivered through FEDEX, UPS or other private carriers.
  • Date stamps all letter mail, flats and packages when received.
  • Ensure mail is secured at all times.
  • Determine proper routing of mail with incorrect or incomplete addresses or no address or addressee by other means (return address, medical terms use on exterior of mail/package or other visual clues which may indicate addressee)
  • Sort by class and place bulk and other designated mail categories into bins for mail that cannot be forwarded.
  • Maintain separate bins for magazines and newspapers.
  • Assist customers and provide guidance on proper addressing and regulatory requirements.
  • May handle biological specimens and other medical items during the process of re-routing.
  • Close mailboxes, changes combination within specified time, re-labels mailbox and reissues, as appropriate.
