Summary

In this role, you will assist Veterinarians in handling horses and recording essential sample data, playing a vital part in upholding the standards set by the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission.

Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for monitoring designated horses, collecting urine samples, and ensuring proper packaging and documentation in accordance with established procedures. Your duties will include retrieving sample kits from the State Veterinarian's office, verifying the sample numbers on the urine cups and security straps, and notifying the State Veterinarian once the samples have been collected. You will also assist the Veterinarian with blood collection while ensuring that the horse remains under the constant supervision of the Livestock Worker. Identification of the horse will be done by reading its tattoo number, and you will need to return, split, and wrap both urine and blood samples following the prescribed guidelines. Additionally, maintaining a clean work area, bedding stalls, and performing other tasks as assigned will be part of your responsibilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a temporary part-time position
  • Typical work schedule is 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday
  • The work schedule is vendor controlled and may change as determined by the racing schedule.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License once hired.
