The Department of Agriculture is currently looking for dedicated individuals to fill Livestock Worker positions at Pocono Downs Racetrack.

In this role, you will assist Veterinarians in managing horses and meticulously recording sample data, playing a crucial part in the racing process.

Livestock Workers are essential in upholding the standards set by the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission, ensuring that all rules, regulations, and policies are adhered to.

This position not only allows you to leverage your equine experience but also immerses you in the dynamic environment of horse racing, where your contributions will have a significant impact on the welfare of the animals and the integrity of the sport.

Requirements

The Livestock Worker 1 role entails a variety of responsibilities centered around the care and management of assigned horses. This includes the vigilant monitoring of the animals to ensure their health and well-being, as well as the collection of urine samples for testing purposes. The worker is required to package these samples in accordance with established protocols, ensuring that all procedures are meticulously followed to maintain the integrity of the samples. Additionally, the position involves completing all necessary records and documentation related to the samples and the horses' health status. Beyond these specific tasks, the Livestock Worker 1 is also expected to assist with other essential farm activities, contributing to the overall operations and maintenance of the facility. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time, temporary employment
  • Typical work schedule is Saturday, Monday, Tuesday: 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
  • Work schedule is vendor controlled and may change as determined by the racing schedule.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License once hired.

Preferred Qualification (not required):
  • Experience working with and around horses.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
