  • Ability to perform on-scene coordination, investigations, inspections, and community relations
  • Physical ability to report to the Denver office regularly and respond to emergencies
  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and preparedness activities for biological, chemical, and radiological hazards

Full Job Description

This position is in Region 8, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Emergency Management Branch, Response Section.

About Region 8 This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.

NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement.

In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level defined as conducting assessments of hazardous substance release or oil spills under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and/or Clean Water Act (CWA).

To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as leading assessment and response to hazardous substances releases or oil spills under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and/or the Clean Water Act (CWA); preparing scopes of work for environmental assessment; and managing budget and tracking costs of environmental response work.

You will: Respond on an emergency basis to the accidental or deliberate release of oil or hazardous materials.

Provide assessment for environmental incidents and determine appropriate emergency response. Conduct official investigations and inspections pursuant to all federal laws administered by the U.S.

EPA, for both fund-led and enforcement-led removal responses.

Perform planning, prevention, and preparedness activities related to the health and environmental hazards resulting from intentional or accidental releases of biological, chemical, and radiological agents.

Perform necessary community relations and coordination activities.
