About the position: This is a RFT (full-time) position located at the Fitness and Sports Center at the Fort Eustis location. The position is guaranteed 35 hours per week.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Ability to lead 2 or more staff to accomplish assignments. Must be able to plan, coordinate, and budget sequence steps needed to meet time constraints of work assignments.
Applicant must have experience and working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs; and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities and equipment, to include rules and procedures in a recreation program activity.
A group exercise certification or personal training certification is required. Must obtain certification in Adult COR/First Aid and AED within 30 days of appointment and maintain as current thereafter.
Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 100 pounds or more. Must be able to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time.
Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Position requires current state driver's license.
"This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use." Major Duties:
As a working leader, one will be expected to perform the following duties: Distribute and balance workload among other Recreation Assistants (Fitness and Sports Instructors).
Observe work in progress, production, and adherence to quality and safety standards. Conduct, teach, and lead group exercise classes.
Demonstrate a command of effective class format, leadership skills, and sensitivity to all levels of fitness.
Demonstrate knowledge in exercise physiology, kinesiology, injury prevention, cardiovascular, and medical considerations.
Assist Fitness Center Director, Fitness Program Specialist, and Sports Specialist with programs and functions, providing support for activities. Instruct and train new employees.
Elevate unresolved employee complaints or operational issues to supervisor. Provide input on performance, progress, and disciplinary problems.
Report all repair and maintenance requirements and all safety violations to immediate supervisor. Ensure adequate stock of materials and equipment necessary to perform duties.
Perform and/or assists in operation and maintenance of the Fitness and Sports programs and facilities. Enforce customer access and priority IAW established procedures and regulatory guidance.
Establish schedules of events, as well as, rules and regulations to be observed.
Types of duties include, but are not limited to the following: inventory, clean, and maintain equipment; safely demonstrate use of equipment and techniques of various fitness and sports activities; prepare areas for daily use, such as, sporting events, tournaments, and practice games; inspects sports facilities and equipment for security and general conditions, performing cleaning duties as required to ensure safe operation conditions; schedule areas for use, with responsibility for seeing that they are vacated or returned in good order.
Provide customers with information on available classes and programs, answering questions, phone calls, providing orientation of facility layout and equipment location.
Perform safety inspections to include: fire, Safety, Public Health, etc. Prepare, submit, receive, and account for supply orders. Accomplish, submit, respond, and follow up on work orders.
Collect user fees in the form of cash and credit transactions, and process cash accountability paperwork. Operate government vehicles. Performs other related duties as assigned.
