The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Community Wellness/Recreation Programs is seeking a Recreation Activity Instructor to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of music programming for youth, teens, adults, and seniors.

Departmental Hiring Hourly Range: $16.25 - $18.00

Requirements

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

Teaches various levels of music classes such as voice, piano, string instrument, guitar, percussion and brass instruments. Develop and organize classes in at least two different instruments.

Assists with developing and implementing fee-based, music classes such as voice, piano, guitar and other string instruments.

Provide classroom management by scheduling, monitoring students, compiling curriculums, redirecting when needed and providing feedback to students.

Market recreation programs by distributing flyers and announcements to the participants. Can safely operate music equipment.

Must have good customer skills.Instructors needed for Voice, Piano, Guitar, Percussion, Brass, and other stringed instruments.

Qualifications Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.

Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.

Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.Must have education &/or experience in music education or closely related fieldAt least one year of instructional experience, preferredValid Driver's License.CPR/First Aid Certification within six months of employment.

Additional Information Work Location: Lakewood Dance & Music Center, 1612 Willow Wood Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509Work Hours: Monday to Sunday; 6:00 a.m.

- 12:00 a.m.; not to exceed 20 hours per week; flexible hours will apply including weekends, holidays, and special events.
