Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading teams to manage workforce planning, analyze staffing needs, and improve processes within the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's technology office.

You'll coordinate activities, prepare reports on recruitment and pay, and advise leaders on performance to support the agency's goals.

It's a good fit for experienced professionals with strong analytical skills and a background in human resources or management in government or large organizations.

Full Job Description

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.

Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology, Workforce Management Division locate in Ashburn, Virginia.

Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Coordinating team activities to ensure alignment with organizational goals, priorities, and deadlines.

Advising management on team accomplishments and performance issues to support workforce planning decisions.

Preparing and submitting reports on staffing, recruitment, and pay estimation to inform leadership resource planning.

Utilizing analytical tools and techniques to improve processes and resolve workforce management challenges.

Developing and documenting systems and procedures to support workforce management monitoring and compliance.

You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 03/06/2026.

Background Investigation: U.S.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity.

During the screening and/or background investigation process, you will be asked questions regarding any felony criminal convictions or current felony charges, the use of illegal drugs (e.g., marijuana, cocaine, heroin, LSD, methamphetamines, ecstasy), and the use of non-prescribed controlled substances including any experimentation, possession, sale, receipt, manufacture, cultivation, production, transfer, shipping, trafficking, or distribution of controlled substances.

Joining Customs & Border Protection will allow you to use your expertise to analyze and advise management on a wide range of program activities which will impact the IT workforce and CBP mission.

This position starts at a salary of $143,913.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $187,093.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

Managing complex projects and working groups, including redesigning, automating, and re-engineering processes to meet the varied and changing requirements of CBP IT workforce planning and management.

Developing, refining, and institutionalizing systems for workforce management monitoring, evaluation, and compliance, ensuring alignment with federal regulations and agency policy.

Evaluating critical resources decisions and advising leadership on optimizing workforce strategies to address organizational needs, resolve challenges and support mission-critical initiatives.
